New York unveils the 'Gorrivan' bed

On Tuesday, the team at our New York showroom welcomed members of the press to celebrate the 'Gorrivan' bed, Savoir's latest collaboration with renowned interior designer, Philip Gorrivan.

While the weather outside was a frightful -16 degress (!!!), it was great to see a number of journalists still made the trip to admire Philip's creation over breakfast at our Soho showroom. Philip was also on hand to discuss his design, and even enjoyed a relaxing lie down on his creation.

Known for his cozy and eclectic interior design projects, the Gorrivan bed was designed to encompass his idea of “classic life… unexpected style.”

As you can see, the bed features a shapely headboard upholstered in a striking checked fabric taken from Philip’s range for Duralee. Named “Highland Court,” the 100% wool fabric features a subtle houndstooth and check print in patina and olive shades.

To see the bed in its New York home visit our brand new Soho showroom at 54 Greene Street NY 10013.

The collaborative Gorrivan bed can be recreated with the help of Savoir’s showroom teams on request.

Building your dream bed

Here at Savoir, we’re proud to offer truly bespoke beds. Whether it’s a heart shaped design, unusual studding or a quirky choice of fabric, we’re happy to customise an order from the headboard right down to the feet!

Customers are often very keen to alter the finishes of their bed. As you can see, there are a huge range of different touches that we can add to a bed’s design. For example, we adore the French natural studding selected by Philip Gorrivan on his bed, which add an extra edge to an otherwise very traditional piece of furniture. To give another example, we recently created an amazing version of our Hugo bed, with a headboard that stood at around 8ft and used 25 metres of velvet fabric!

However, while we are happy to change the aesthetics of our beds, we believe it is the customisation of our bed sets that make our products really special. For example, we assess every customer who visits our showrooms to place an order, and are able to determine not only your personal preferences, but can marry that with your partner’s.

This is where our zip-and-link functionality comes in handy. Couples can enjoy a different mattress tension to their partner, using a method of joining two individual mattresses together. Meaning it’s simple to sleep according to personal preference, but remain cosy and close to your partner. This level of customisation is actually very popular, and allows people to have the best sleep they possibly can, without worrying about your partners choice of mattress.

We also have a lot of requests from people with back complaints, who need additional support from their bed. With this in mind, we can create different tensions within one mattress, so say you needed extra lower back support, we can alter the firmness of the springs to support that problem area specifically.

So it’s very clear what it takes to be branded a bespoke bed company, from the subtle finishes, fabrics and mattress firmnesses, we believe that it’s very important that our customers are given the optimum free reign in design, in order to bring their dream bed to life.

Love (and sleep!) is all around

We truly believe that getting a better sleep can revolutionise the way you feel, and in turn, have a massive effect on your love life! Research from the Better Sleep Council (BSC) found that on average, one in three people report that their partner’s sleep problems negatively impact their own quality of sleep – something that could definitely cause tension at the breakfast table!

With this in mind, we have created this luxurious hot-pink bed with canary yellow piping, which is comfortable enough to ensure that you can leave your sleep problems behind this Valentine’s Day. What’s more, Savoir’s ‘zip-and-link’ mattresses mean that couples can enjoy a different mattress tension to their partner. Using this method of joining two individual mattresses together, it’s simple to sleep according to personal preference, but remain cosy and close to your Valentine.

To truly get into the spirit of things, we invited our favourite interior designers for a cosy screening of a Valentine’s Day favourite, Dirty Dancing. With Pick ‘a’ Mix, Popcorn and Prosecco flowing, the ladies from Fiona Barratt Interiors and Taylor Howes watched the movie relaxing on Savoir Beds.

We hope you all have a perfect Valentine’s Day!

The Valentine’s Day bed boasts a Claudia headboard upholstered in hot-pink Romo fabric and includes a Savoir No.4 mattress measured at 180x200cm. This bed can be recreated with the help of Savoir’s showroom teams for £9,500.

Each year, guests are given a coveted BAFTA goodie bag, this year featuring The Savoy Cocktail Book. Top tips for a better bedtime

With the tail end of January finally finished, and February just beginning, what better way to enjoy the coming months than treat yourself to a better sleep? With this in mind, here at Savoir we’ve collated our best advice to truly make the most of your bedtime.

1)      Don’t take the heat

If you find that you are horribly hot and bothered at bedtime, the sheets you choose could be the culprit. Synthetic fabrics are more likely to trap heat, meaning that you may feel too warm to doze off, leaving you frustrated and unlikely to sleep well. Selecting a higher quality cotton sheet is more likely to let you maintain your perfect temperature and enjoy a better sleep experience. We recommend a high thread-count Egyptian cotton, which is not only luxuriously soft, but will keep you cool throughout the night.

2)      Turn off the tech

Recent research has found that 77% of 35-49-year-olds watch TV right before bed, and almost two-thirds of 18-34-year-olds use their smart phones before sleep. According to Business Insider, the artificial light from electronic screens impacts circadian rhythms and sleep-wake cycles, and ultimately impacts negatively on your sleep. Shunning electronic devices in the bedroom is one way to chill out and ensure you are sleep-ready when it comes to lights off time.  If you feel restless and aren’t able to relax, why not try reading a book, which will relax your mind ready for sleep.

3)      You + a quality mattress = a good night’s sleep

According to the Better Sleep Council, you should ‘Get on Top of a New Mattress and Get to the Bottom of Your Sleep Problems.’ The BSC recommend that you reassess your mattress every 7 years and consider buying a new one. We spend over a third of our lives in bed, so doing this in comfort is certainly recommended. If you are not ready to invest in a new mattress however, here at Savoir we recommend that a mattress is flipped, or rotated, monthly, so that what was your sleeping surface is now the bottom of your mattress – often giving your bed a new lease of life.

In the UK the clocks go forward 1 hour at 1am on Sunday 29th of March, so why not use February to trial the above tips and get into a more positive sleep pattern.
