We kicked off the year with the Royal State Bed, officially launched in March at Kensington Palace with a party that dazzled all that attended. This unique design, inspired by the models used in the 17th and 18th centuries by the monarchs, is one of Savoir's most elaborate beds yet with over 100 hrs of bespoke labor. It traveled the world this year as an ambassador for Savoir and for British, luxury craftsmanship.
In July it traveled to New York, where it got a lot of media attention and took centre stage on Fox News breakfast show. A red version, symbolizing joy and good fortune, set sail to China later on in the year and visited Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei.

Our showrooms have had a busy year, in June we moved to a new location on the King's Road in London and opened a stunning new showroom in Taipei - a first for Taiwan. In Berlin "British Saturdays' have been sharing the best of British and in London our 'Savoir Nights' have been welcoming friends old and new to talk sleep and design.

We took part in numerous events: SuperyachtDESIGN week in London, WestEdge Design fair in California, JSWB in Shanghai and of course Decorex, where a third version on the Royal State Bed, in a gorgeous palette of teal, blue and silver took centre stage on our stand.

The Savoir Design Grand Prix, once again brought us fresh designs and young designer talent. The theme this year… 'ROYAL' of course… inspired contestants from around the world and 3 international finalists had their headboards made by Savoir. The judges chose as the overall winner 'Royal Peacock' a design by Natasha Gupta from KLC school of design.

We must say that one of true highlights of the year was collaboration with designer Nicole Fuller Interiors. The 'Talia' bed, designed to evoke a sense of romance, comfort and sumptuous luxury launched the collection in a fantastic event in the New York showroom on the 15th of October.

With the launch of our new 'Pet Bed' collection to close the year we think its safe to say that 2013 has been eventful and productive. We have plenty of exciting projects lined up for next year and can't wait to see what else 2014 will bring.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Pantone has announced “Radiant Orchid” is the color of the year for 2014, succeeding 2013′s color Emerald.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement that the color of 2014 is “an invitation to innovation” that “encourages expanded creativity and originality.” She also claims it’s a color that Michelle Obama often wears and notes designers like Max Mara, Marc Jacobs, Salvatore Ferragamo, Ermengildo Zegnahave have been incorporating orchid hues into their collections in the past year, the AP reports.

Pantone officials picked “radiant orchid” based on extensive interviews with industrial and fashion designers worldwide about what color they plan to use in upcoming seasons as well as sales of “color swatches,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

We expect this colour to find its way into our wardrobe and our home in the coming year. At Savoir Beds we have already come up with this beautiful option to bring 'Radiant Orchid" into the bedroom.

If a headboard and base is too much for you maybe some luxurious linens with a subtle orchid cording will do the trick?

Whether it's painting a whole room or just a few scatter cushions start thinking how you can bring this vibrant colour into your home next year.

Sleep Concept Hotel, part of Sleep 2013, invited designers to plan and build a life sized hotel room following the brief composed by our influential judging panel.  This year’s brief was inspired by the nostalgia for the 1960s.

The winning design by Cullinan Interior & Infinite Architecture, whose room featured inspiration from Ken Adams' set design for Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove, and included elements of surprise such as interstellar fractal-inspired artwork.

This rather psychedelic, sleep haven included a Savoir bed. The ultimate sleep system to ensure hotel guests enjoy a first class experience.

Cullinan Interior offers an unparalleled level of service and industry expertise in the global sourcing of hospitality fabric, carpet, lighting and furniture. Having completed a host of international hospitality projects at every quality level, Cullinan Interior has worked with most of the major hotel chains in addition to independent hotels and resorts.

Infinite are a young studio-based architecture firm made up of vibrant individuals passionate about design and the possibilities it unlocks to improve the lives of those within our society. Their core values are creativity, integrity, humility, courage and accountability.

Our master craftsman Jonathan, who has become an experienced traveler thanks to his role at Savoir, has traveled from his home town in Wales to Taipei. He took part in the weekends events at the Taipei Design Centre.

The Royal State bed was on display and Jonathan demonstrated to journalists and clients the techniques used to make the unique No1 base. He gathered quite a crowd and received great interest in the skills and natural materials used to make this product.

The Royal State Bed has been in Taipei for more than a week now and has generated great interest in the press and received numerous visitors.  It has been a fantastic ambassador of British craftsmanship and has put our Taipei showroom, that opened earlier this year, in the limelight.

Earlier this year in September, Stefan & Tanja, our German clients received their Savoir No2 bed set fitted into a beautiful, 100 year old, Jugendstil bed-frame they previously owned.

Their story started months before when they contacted one of our London showrooms with their particular request. “I can guarantee that we did not get such a competent and profound answer from any other long-established bedworks we sent our request to’ says Tanja.

After their initial contact Stefan & Tanja visited the German showroom and tried the different bed models, they decided the No2 was the perfect fit for them. They chose the tension they preferred on their mattress and discussed all the details with the Savoir staff.

Later they came to the London bedworks to see their frame had arrived ok and to meet the craftsmen that would be making their bed. “ To visit the factory in Old Oak Lane was a great experience for both of us. We were amazingly impressed by the calmness, the space and the pleasant atmosphere the factory provides” says Stefan. They enjoyed a tour of the factory and saw how a each part of their bed would be lovingly hand crafted. They felt such a strong connection with TJ, mattress maker, they requested he make their mattress.

When their bed was delivered they were delighted with the results and sent Savoir the photos of their bed in its new home. “... it is a dream ... we are very grateful to all of you, who were taking part in creating our new bed and caring for our good sleep” says Tanja.

As always we are happy to hear from satisfied clients and we wanted to share this ‘story of a bed’ that came together thanks to the clients wishes to revive a beautiful bed frame and the skilled craftsmanship of the Savoir master bedmakers.
